Getting a website ranked is a very difficult job, but making it one of India’s top websites is much more than just tough. Today we are going to talk about the journey of Beebom which started from nothing and is now India’s top tech website.
Devinder thought of opening a website when he bought a laptop in his second year of engineering. He with his friend Kapil ended up creating a tech website, although they didn’t know anything what a blog is or how it works. That’s why it took them 68 days to figure it out.
Our friends really liked it. It was received really well when we launched it. But it didn’t scale the way we assumed it to be.
During their final year of college in 2013 Beebom was able to get a decent amount of traffic and the duo were able to make decent income from the website.
Return of Beebom
After graduation Devinder got a job in Chennai and Kapil started working in a startup. But after some months the duo didn’t feel like working for their current jobs so that’s when they met and decided to bring Beebom back from the dead.
We decided to get back where we started and do what we know best. So, in December, 2013 we met in Ahmedabad, and operated from there for about three to four months, and then shifted to Delhi.
Bringing Beebom back from the dead was not easy for the duo as they worked on several projects and did advertising just to make Beebom survive with a hope that the traffic would increase on the site as well as the revenue but as always nothing went according to the plan.
It was then when they decided to change their track and move on a different one. They started publishing articles on entertainment and many more topics except technology. The duo describes this change as their biggest mistake.
In December 2014 they decided to go back from where they started. By october 2015 Beebom had a team of 10 members who were working regularly on the Website.
Now, we restrict ourselves to doing only high quality technology resources, made sure to put all our efforts in Beebom and do just as much of consultancy as it’s required to survive.
In May Beebom became a self sustaining entity with a good margin. In January 2016 the team claims to have crossed over 1 crore in revenue and over half a million readers.
