Earlier last year, we were able to get a look at the Galaxy F foldable smartphone by Samsung. At that time, it was perceived that Samsung was the only company working on foldable phones, but now it seems like a Chinese company has also been working lately on a foldable phone. Today, a new leak surfaced on the internet reportedly claiming that Xiaomi might be secretly working on a triple folded smartphone.
The leak was first reported by famous tipster Evan Blass, who tweeted a photo of the foldable phone which appears to be made by Xiaomi. In the leak, it can be clearly seen that some mapping app is opened on the device and is divided pretty much equally between the three screens. However, it should be noted that when the user folds back two sides of the device, it automatically changes its settings to fit the app within a single screen, which is quite different from Samsung’s approach in this sector, in which you have to manually fold the screens inwards in order to use a single screen.
Can't speak to the authenticity of this video or device, but it's allegedly made by Xiaomi, I'm told. Hot new phone, or gadget porn deepfake? pic.twitter.com/qwFogWiE2F— Evan Blass (@evleaks) January 3, 2019
Even though, Blass himself did not verify the authenticity of the video, a report was published last year by ET Times, which said that Xiaomi is actually working on building out an ‘outfolding’ phone. Notably, another Chinese tech giant Oppo is also expected to release a foldable smartphone at this year’s Mobile World Congress which is going to be held in Barcelona.
