According to a recent story published by Quartz, Reliance Jio, one of India’s biggest telecom company is now blocking access to VPN as well as proxy services that lets the users to remain anonymous while browsing through the internet. A few days before Quartz report was published, several users on the social network site Reddit were raising legitimate concerns over this matter.
The alarming aspect of this issue that actually pulls in the worrying factor is that by blocking these VPN and proxy services, the company is in clear violation of the net neutrality rules that states ISP’s should treat all online traffic equally. These regulations were approved by the government around last August.
Several famous VPN and proxy services such as VPNBook, Hidestar, Megaproxy etc. are all currently blocked on Jio. But still fully available on all the other ISP’s and mobile carriers like ACT and Airtel. Notably, it means that Jio is blocking all these services without any permit from the government.
