In China, since the last few years, vendor corruption has managed to become sort of a persistent problem for various high profile companies and the latest company to face this problem is DJI most popularly recognized for pioneering the drone sphere in the ever-growing tech industry.
The drone maker in its official statement addressed that a gang of employees associated directly with them somehow managed to get away with stealing a substantial sum of the company’s profits for purely personal use by chiefly artificially amplifying the cost of parts used for the manufacturing of their drones. It has been reported by a lot of publications that this accounting scandal pulled together by employees has cost DJI nearly $147 million in losses.
As tracked by Reuters, the news first surfaced on the internet when a rather highly confidential document related to this scandal went viral on various Chinese social networking sites. As per the details supplied by the internal document, DJI hasn’t confirmed the total number of employees involved in this affair, but so far the company has sacked approximately 45 employees who are suspected to be behind this scheme.
Notably, the internal document also hints us about the fact that a majority of DJI’s workers that are alleged to have been a part of this scam were most likely employed in the research and development department with a small proportion involved in procurement. Besides, a recent investigation conducted by DJI to look further into the matter revealed that there was a 20 percent inflation in the cost of parts and that too on an average level.
